What is success.........

Friends,
I have gone offtopic today.I am going to try to give different aspects on the defination for a big big word named "SUCCESS".
What is success?Whom you call a successful man?How one would see a success?
I have seen people saying that the success he got is the only way one can get and not any other way. They are not ready to accept the otherway of success of others.
Is Success is related to only Money? Is success is related to achievement? Is success only related to Fame?Is Success related to living in big house and having many cars and many servants?
Is success related on to the what place one possess where he works ?A position like Officer or Manager or Area Sales Manager makes a successful person? Is the position everything that is counted in society?
I have been asked by many of my friends and relatives that Why I use to be a simple Head Cashier in Bank and not an officer or a Manager of any branch?Does it means that if I am a manager or a officer then only I am deemed to be successful? Is succes related to the position in society? If one has no such position is that man worth not taken note of?There can be many reaons why a person may not opt for certain decision.Does it means he is not worth taking note of?
I would like to discuss what are the parametres of being Successful?Having salaries over 1,00,000 in dollar is called success?Or having 40-50-100 people working under ones hand and having high salary as well is called a success?
I have seen people trying to make a point on this type of things that I have more responsibility then yours and you have no big responsibility and that fight use to get serious and there use to get a sense of hotting up the atmosphere.
Now what I think here is even one is having such a post and high salary and still he is not humble then the success has no meaning to me. Success makes man more humble and not arrogant. If success is making a person arrogant and starts thinking that what he does is correct even though what he does is wrong and he starts thinking that he is still correct ,whether it is with his job or other way then to me that has a no value......I would term that person as a ZERO...
I have seen many such people who are never repentive as they think that what they does and act is absolutely right even though it is not so.They never repent.....that is arrogance....and the bad thing is , they are very proud to be so. They proudly says that I don't care of what others thinks of me......
I am trying to bring one more aspect here.

I have seen people thinking this way about not worrying what others think of what they do.That is good but then others can also think the same way they thinks.
e.g. When a person think whatever he has done or thought is correct and he cares a damn what others think about what he has done as he has the right to think like that but the other person may not be thinking that he is right and he has also the same right to think about his way, which he thinks is right. One can't force him to do what he thinks to do.But I have seen that these type of people feels that they have done nothing wrong and expect other to accept that but that can never happen. Means that if one is doing wrong and still feels he is right and that others should accept it, it is not possible.I have seen such type of people in life. They do all wrong and still expect that other should accept that. Why? What he think is right may not be correct for other....simple.... Others have also the same right to care for him the damn.

Well, many people has the notion that what he has achieved is only be termed as success. If one is earning over $1,00,000 or $2,00,000 in a business they say the business can go down and one lose. But they don't understand that Job can also be lost. Someone told me that Motel is a risky business and hence it is not worth a look but what about those who made millions of money in Motel business? Aren't they successful?
I have a friend whose daughter is having a salary of $1,20,000 and she is just 24 years old.Now what can we say about that. The same salary others may have got of say working for over decade and a half and that girl is having a salary almost at the starting of her carrer but the arrogant people will say that is not worth. The success should come the way only mine way otherwise all are futile.
Talking about successful people I somewhere wrote that almost all successful people has admitted that they are lucky to be successful.
I am giving an example which I wrote there that I will not write the names. Here I give you a name. Bill Gates of Microsoft. He himself has written and spoken somewhere which I have read myself that after making Microsoft and listing it on stock Exchange , one day when I got up and saw that MS price has gone up by 50% in one day ,that was sheer luck. There was nothing that changed in 24 hrs that MS price can go up by 50%.
There are score of such exmaples. If Abhisek Bacchan would have not been the son of Amitabh Bacchan then he would not have been able to last this long in film industry. Whatever success he got and chances he got for so many pictures to prove that he is a good actor is only because he is AB's sons. Why that do not happened in the life of other actors who failed and never a film producer gave him another chance? Why Abhisek Bacchan is getting more chances then others? Can Abhisek Bacchan claim to be successful on his own?Never....Success is inter related. One is always standing on someone's shoulder when the last results comes out.But people forgets that and become too selfcentered and boast of having success on his own.

One more thing I would like to write here. I have seen successful people has charited lots of money for good cause. Like Bills Gates, Warren Buffet....This says that they know that this type of wealth they have accumalated is sheer luck and that is why they know that it should go to society for less fortunate. FORTUNE IS LUCK. When we say” fortunately” we accept the term LUCK. We have been passed through many circumstances where we have said fortunately this happened.
What is that?Like say one is trying to call someone , which is very urgent and he is not on cell. The info is very very important. Now that person meets you as soon as you go out of your house. When ask he says my cell battery was down but he was coming to your house and you will think fortunately he came to my house and I was able to convey this message. This happens with everyone .
What is that.If he would have not come either you or he would have been at great loss. Why this happens? How one will explain this? These are small things which we do not note when happens in our life.Never thought why that happened?
If one boast to be successful then why they are not able to gather the wealth Warren Buffet or Bills Gates or some other rich person is able to achieve? Why he is confined to just that much of income and not able to go above that?Way beyond that?
When your birth is not your choice what to say about other things? Why I was not born in Dhirubhai Amabani's house and why Anil Ambani. Why Anil Ambani born with a golden spoon in the mouth and not me?Why he has not to scramble for money and good living and a common man has to ?Why he got eberything on Silver or gold platter not others? What SIN other did that they even do not get foods enough for 2 times while foods is thrown away outside in rich houses?
Why a person has to take birth in a Slum and why others take birth in riches? What is the SIN of the person that he took birth in a Slum ?Can anyone answer me?Why some one is born in a big house and why one is there in slum? Why children of rich people can go abroad and take degrees in USA which has very less stress for passing the college and still said to have the US degree , even though they are below average in study and why other children has no chance to avail that even thoguh they are more good in study then the rich children?Because his father is not rich , cannot afford? But what SIN that child made that his father is not rich?
And that comes to my point .Success is related to many things many surrounding. Many things and many person has helped you in the way of success. I remember once Bill Gates said that don't avoid person while going up as you never know while coming down whom you will need. These says everything.
And what is Succes? Succes is what Dhirubhai Ambani achieved, what Bills Gates achieved. One is just a matriculate and one is college drop out. Warren Buffet was no great scohlar either. I have seen people saying that good and great academic carrier is a path for success but just try to look at all successful person they are just average people with no great academic carrer.
I define success as what Dhirubhai Ambani or Bills Gates achieved. They charited because they know that whatever they have done is too small then what they have achieved in regards of money, fame etc etc.......and that is why they give back to society.
While writing I believe in LUCK I never said one needs to sit down and the money will drop in your lap. Everyone try to be succesful and many fails and many gets success very soon and many gets success very late. Why one gets so soon and why one gets it so late?Depends upon what one mean by success.Money earning is success?Fame is succes?
One thing I have observed is that those who donot believe in luck they never accept their mistake and always try to find fault with others. Like they think that it is due to others wrong decision and misinformation they have to pass through this turmoils. They never accept that it was their decision which has making all these troube. That is the mindset of people who do not believe in luck as they believe that they planned everything and the life is exactly moving round according how they planned. And hence anything going wrong when they try to put it proper and if not done they will accuse some other person...
This is a general view and one should not put the hat on their head. I have written what I have observed and nothing more but it is a fact that those who do not believe in LUCK they find faults with others and will accuse others for their failure.
Well, if one have observed then one should have seen that someone use to drink alcohol heavily and still he lives a very long life.I have seen that type of numeruous example.Drunkard , drinking a 3rd grade alcohol, lives for many years and another person gets sick and dies in early 40's and 50's.Why that happens?Because the body didn't resist the alcohol in one person while in other person the body was able to resist the intake of over alcohol. Now does that mean that the alcohlic person who lived long developed such great body and hence he lived longer?NO, it is not?He inherited that body from his fore fathers and that is why he is living long. What is good for one can be bad for others. Our body is not ours. We didn't get it by our choice. Our birth is not by our choice.
I know one can argue that our birth and body is not our choice but we can plan it how it will be in future? How one can change the life who is living in a slum? What opportunity one is going to get? With father a drunkard, mother trying to meet both ends .These are talks.Take birth in a Slum area like Dharavi and then one need to think. One needs to go there and see how people live there and what one can do there and become successful.Go there and see how people live in a Slum.Find out how life is there in Dharavi. What type of problem one encounters which starts from early morning for Toilet.....so on and so forth....Arguements always looks good. Can anyone EXPLAIN me how he would have acted or planned HIS LIFE if he has taken birth in a SLUM?When there is problem for having food for each day how will one think of going abroad if one is not able to get good marks like Rich Peoples children use to have that type of luxury?
It is easy to say then done........

Bottomline is "Anything which one gets more then the effort made ,is LUCK..."

Am I too scared then I need to be for Global economy?

Friends,
I am writing too much negative which I do not do in normal circumstances.
But as I go on reading internet, Business papers, watch TV's business channel of India and USA I am becoming more concerned.
Just read couple of days back that in

1) USA Bankruptcy filing is up from earlier year by 29% in USA.
2)134 publicly traded cos filed bankruptcy and the figure is up by whopping 74% in USA .That is huge.
3)Scores of Banks are unable to show the proof of the Mortagages. It means that there are no papers with the bank for the Mortagages and when Bank will claim of that perticular mortagage ,it will not be able to have attachement on that Mortagage as it has no papers viz: Proof that this mortgage belongs to such and such bank.
This is horrible when we think of USA as Warren Buffet and likes always says that USA system is the most transperant and most reliable.
USA system talks of accountability and very strong rules for the corporate to follow and they need to adhere in any circumstances.
I would like to ask all those people and speakers who were damn sure about the system and reliabilty that what happened to all these.
4)AIG , a US Insurance co where US government has 80% stake has gone to bankruptcy.
Ben Bernanke says he was aggrivated when the news of AIG quater loss of $61 bn came out.
US governmnent ahs already pumped in $150 bn in AIG and that is already finished and now AIG wants more with its latest $61 bn loss.US gove alreadt immidiately sanction $3o bn after the last qr result of $61 bn came out.
So we can derive that $150 bn + $30bn = $180bn goes to AIG then I think $700 bn pacakage is nothing but just a peanut. Obama will need muc much more then this...
5) People are taking out money from 401K and IRS and that will again lead to bigger liquidity crunch. The withdrawing of money rate is going to get increased and will lead in much worser situation.
Frank Cappiello,CM of Montogomery Bros, Cappiello , in Baltimore says
" This is frightful.I haven't seen a bear market without a rally. No oine wants to stepup to the plate.WEe are going to have a whole generation wothout enough to retire on".
I think his words speaks for everything and if one can understand the finer prints of his saying there is nothing more for me to write for the US Indian residents who are following my blog and read it regularly.
I will be very very happy if someone can take a clue and save his money.

Now here are some facts which I have read somewhere and am pasting for my readers.Am sure after reading this any person can understand what needs to be done with their money lying in 401k and IRS.

Fact #1: Earnings declines are now worse than in America’s First Great Depression. Average earnings have plunged 61% year-over-year, much more than during the 1930s. In fact, the last time earnings declined more than 61% was 141 long years ago!

Fact #2: Consumer losses are worse as well. Last time around, the losses that triggered the depression were largely limited to stock market investors.

This time, the fact that the average NYSE stock has already wiped out HALF investors’ money is only the tip of the iceberg: The equity most folks count on as their #1 source of retirement savings has also been wiped out as our homes have lost a staggering $2.4 trillion of their value in a single year.

Fact #3: Debts are far larger. Like this crisis, the Great Depression was essentially a debt implosion. But in 1929, total debts represented no more than 170% of GDP. This time around, U.S. consumers are buried under a far larger mountain of mortgage debt, auto loan debt, credit card debt and other consumer debts. Result: Total debts are now close to 350% of GDP — TWO TIMES MORE!

Fact #4: Derivatives! The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) reports that U.S. banks now hold a $176-trillion mountain of derivatives, many of which are extremely high risk. In 1929, these derivatives were virtually non-existent.

Fact #5: Giant failures. In the first 18 months of the 1929-32 bear market, there were many small and medium-sized bank failures. However, none were as massive or as dangerous as the giant failures we’ve experienced in the first 18 months of this giant bear market.

This time around, the failures (or bailouts) of giants like Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Fannie and Freddie, Washington Mutual, and Wachovia dwarf anything seen in 1929. And even these large failures will be trumped several times over by the impending demise of Citigroup and AIG.

Fact #6: U.S. is a debtor nation! In 1929, the United States was a creditor nation, with substantial foreign reserves. Today, the U.S. is the world’s largest debtor nation, dependent on foreign lenders to keep it afloat. That means that there’s a definite limit to how much longer the U.S. government can continue to borrow to bail out failing institutions.

Fact #7: The economic collapse and debt crisis are far from over! Just this morning, for example, we learned that

Home prices have plunged 18.5%.

Sales of existing homes have fallen to the lowest level in twelve years.

Sales of new homes cratered to an all-time record low.

697,000 American families lost a paycheck in February — a 25% increase from January’s abysmal figures.

All these figures that are coming are no fictitious figures. It is time to think and act....

Obama intends to put $150 bn in Renewable Energy..........pick the stocks....

Obama pulls back the curtain: 10-year budget plan
Jeanne Sahadi, CNNMoney.com senior writer
Thursday February 26, 2009, 12:27 pm EST

President Obama on Thursday pulled back the curtain on his first detailed vision of the federal budget for the next 10 years.
His outline includes an ambitious plan to reform health care, half of which would be paid for by increasing the tax bite on high-income Americans.
Obama has said repeatedly that his first fiscal plan would have a two-pronged mission: to reduce the $1 trillion-plus deficit and make big investments in the future.
The administration estimates that the deficit for fiscal year 2009 will reach $1.75 trillion, or 12.3% of U.S. gross domestic product. That's a record in dollar terms and is the highest as a share of GDP since World War II.
Obama's promise: reduce the deficit he inherited to $533 billion by 2013.
"We will each and every one of us have to compromise on certain things we care about, but which we simply cannot afford right now. That's a sacrifice we're going to have to make," Obama said.
"What I won't do is sacrifice investments that will make America stronger, more competitive and more prosperous in the 21st century," he said.
Obama's outline also reveals how much more money he and his economic team are setting aside to stabilize the financial system. Their estimate: $250 billion. That would be on top of the $700 billion already authorized by Congress under the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
The document the White House delivered to Congress on Thursday is only a broad-stroke preview of the president's formal 2010 fiscal budget request, which is expected out in April. Lawmakers will spend the next several months debating and amending final legislation.
The Obama outline touches on the full scope of the federal government's spending and revenue collection efforts. Some of the highlights include:
Create a $634 billion health care reserve fund: The purpose of the fund would be "dedicated [to] financing reforms to our health care system," according to the budget outline. Among the fund's goals would be to aim for universality of coverage and reduce the growth in insurance premiums.
It would be paid for in two ways. The first, expected to raise $318 billion over 10 years, would limit how much of a deduction high-income taxpayers may take. Instead of reducing their tax liability by their top income tax rate, they wouldn't be allowed to reduce their bill by any more than 28%. So for every $100 in deductions, they would reduce their tax liability by $28.
The second way Obama proposes to pay for the fund is to achieve health care savings by, among other things, reducing payments to private insurance companies offering Medicare and reducing prescription drug prices. The administration estimates these efforts could save $316 billion over 10 years.
The budget outline also notes the $634 billion fund is "not sufficient to fully fund comprehensive reform" but is a first step in the process.
Let tax cuts expire for families making more than $250,000: The president's budget would allow the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire for high income tax filers to help reduce the deficit. The White House estimates doing so could raise $640 billion over 10 years, although Obama's desire to extend those same cuts for lower and middle income families is estimated to increase the deficit by more than $900 billion during the same period.
Make permanent a number of tax breaks from stimulus: The president's budget seeks to make permanent the Making Work Pay credit worth up to $400 per worker ($800 per working family). It also seeks to make permanent the expansion of the child tax credit and the newly enlarged college credit now called the American Opportunity Tax Credit.
Commits more money for renewable energy efforts: Obama's budget will call on Congress to create a cap-and-trade program in which companies would have to pay for permission to emit greenhouse gases. Revenue from the program is intended to pay for a $150 billion renewable energy fund among other things.

My Comments:
The renewable energy sector is going to have a great time in future which I have discussed here many times.
Times are bad and hence stocks are going down and are available at throw away price.
I have already discussed many stocks in renewable sector.Just keep a watch on them.
$150 bn is no small amt by any standard.Oil prices are bound to go upward in future and hence the exploration cos that I have listed are worth a watch as well.
Selan Explo, Aban Llyod, HOEC,Alpha Geo,Shiv Vani, Dolphin Offshore etc needs a special attention.

USA Economy and its Financial Crisis............

Friends,
I am trying to look through US economy and the financial crisis. My interpretation maybe wrong as I am no Economics guys.I am science student and by default came to stock market and then I get interested in stocks and cos and went on making certain rules for investing in market .What ever I have written about the investing and what to look and when to look , maybe they are age old saying of investing in stock market but then I have never read any book on stock market nor read any Masters like Wareen Buffet ,Benjamin Graham,Peter Lynch or Charli Munger etc etc.....
I always thought that learning by mistakes is the best process and hence never bought those books where scores or thousands of investor use to read and follow.
Moreover, investing is a RISK and one needs to be daring in nature to invest in certain co at very early stage when no one is looking at.This type of investing needs lots of daring and this Daring comes from within or say it comes with birth. One can't learn it and that is why there is only one Dhirubhai Ambani or one Warren Buffet.
I also feel that more the person is acadamically qualified more he is defensive in nature and that is a big negative for investing. When person starts thinking in defensive manner, like say what will happen if the cos do not do well according to what is said by management then he will never invest in it.That is a draw back.Well, those who invested thinking that A gr stocks are the best to invest must also be repenting in this scenario.
There is nothing like good co or bad co, good management or bad management.Market is the slave of earnings and as soon as market sees that the stocks starts moving.Maybe sometime market takes time to show that but patience is always rewarded.
In both the above example eg Dhirubhai Ambani and Warren Buffet , they were average in studies. They were no great scholars.Actually Dhirubhai Ambani was just a matriculate.Just try to read any big business man they were very mediocre in studies and the likes of Bills Gates , oh! they were dropouts from college.Bill Gates even didn't complete his colloge.
What makes them successful? The Vision and clarity of what they wants to do.....and the way they stick to their Goals.
Anyway, coming back to US Crisis, I feel that US economy can still go down. They have deficit of $700 bn and how they are going do that ?How they are going to fill the gap?Their export is just arms and ammunations.US do not make anything they imports everything from world over.US has taken billions of dollars of loan from all over the world through treseury bills and they will have to pay it back. How they are going to do that? Not a single American belives in saving. They just save for Old age , and that too if they have good job otherwise they live on paycheck to paycheck.I just read today that a 90 year old man lost $7,00,000 in this financial crisis and now at the age of 90 he has to work at $10/hr! That is just rediculous. How can a person at 90 has to work at this age at just $10/hr when he needs to sit with his great grandsons and have leisure and have great time he has to go out and do the job?
Is this the American System and is this the way people are going to have to bear the brunt?I think there needs to be some radical changes in the whole thinking at the Top man at White House. The CEO's became arrogant that they didn't see what was happening in the financial world and went on creating mistakes after mistakes and to cover one mistake they went to do other mistakes. These CEO's were just interested in their fat salaries and they are the culprit to bring the economics crisis.I just am not able to understand that after infusing $700 bn still the US crisis is not taking name to subside anyway.Obama is ready with another $700 bn stimulous pacakage but will it end there!Bear Stren, UBS,Citi,Lehman,Goldman Scahs etc etc are all drowned in the credit crunch.New skeleton is coming out one by one and there seems to be no end.People are loosing money in 401k and IRD.People who put their money in these plans have lost $1,00,000 to $7,00,000 and more and the pity is that these are people who are in very old age and they needs the money badly and they have lost everything. How this type of incident are going to be averted is a big big problem. Now US government is thinking of nationalizing all banks but what about the money lost?Who will pay that?Being sick is a CRIME in USA.The bills goes so big that never a person can pay it in his whole life.If do not have Medical Insurance you are gone.Even with Medical Insurance one has to still dole out money and that can go to 5000 to 10000 dollars according to the treatment.
Obama is saying he will takecare of this thing but what he will be able to do needs to be seen as the Pharmaceutical Lobby with Doctors is very powerful. They will never let happen that way.
Printing money and infusing in system makes no sense. That will give rise to inflation and that will increase the turmoils of people in America. What America does is SPENDING, they just spend and nothing else. The Auto sector eg GM,Ford , Landrover,Jaguar etc are good for nothing and all had gone bankrupt.Thousands of people has been laidoff. The unemployment figures that has come is highest since many decades.Housing is down and that is the biggest stimulous of USA.When that is down who will survive.Obama is talking of putting a brake on outsourcing but who will do these jobs ass cheap as Indians?Any IT Eng gets no less then $70,000 and that is Rs 35 lacs.Who is going to pay this type of salary to the IT Eng in USA?Where as same jobs is done in India with just RS 60,000 at any BPO ceentre .Just compare the figures.Maybe IT Eng gets more salary but is no where near to the pay USA will have to pay in USA perticularly when the chips are down for US company and economy.
I am just giving an example.I bought a Lexmark printer , a wireless one.I installed the software but didn't do it correctly and hence with UBS cord it was working but not without it.I called Lexmark and asked for the assitance and you know where I was connected?I was connected to Banglore. Now why Lexmark has to give customer service work to Indians?Naturally it is coming very cheap. That is the catch and to put it properly, the things were done very nicely and precisely. The wireless software was installed again very properly and the job was done greatly. Now tell me where in the world US will get this type of work done with 100% customer satisfaction and that too so CHEAP?Nowhere in the world but India.
There are almost 50% of population who do not goes for College. They drops out from school or just complete 12th and leave the school and start earning at $9-10 /hr.They think that they will earn and then go for college but that never happens as once you start earning it is diffcult to leave that job because the money that comes in the pocket makes you feel not to go for further studies.I have seen that once you leave the study it needs lots of guts and determination to go back there and hence I feel that Indian way is the best way for all children.First complete the studies and then take the job.Focus only on studies and nothing else.
On every new day I am hearing newer and newer scams coming out.I am not sure where it is going to end as still the credit card crisis is still to surface.
Let us see, where we land............but on optimist note let me write, it has to end somewhere.....

Srei Infra soars on light rail order ............6000 cr project...

Friends,
I have been writing on this stocks since long. The catch was Srie stake in Quippo which has interest in Oil and Oil Rigs and it self a fundamental co.
Today the price of SREI INFRA has come down so low that it is in state of a throw away price category.
The recent annoucement that I have pasted here for my blog readers is one of a kind , a rare order worth 6,000 cr which is won by Srei consortium cos.
This also shows where Srei Infra has collobarated with the overseas cos to have the necessary expertise.....
One thing I would like to write is ,maybe my picks are not working now but when they will pick up the momentum they gives phenominal returns. They run in circuits.
Like once a reader named Shree wrote that he bought Kwality Dairy on my call at below Rs 20, and when the whole market is down ,Kwality Dairy is touching new highs and has crossed THREE figure mark and is over 100!
I agree my calls and my reading of the market has been wrong since start of last year but remember my words , the stocks which are now available at throw away price are worth investing for a period of 2-3 yrs.
Bad days can't remain forever and the tide willturn one day.
Buy stocks for 2-3 yrs perspective and I am sure one can earn big money.I really mean big as big as 10 times or 20 times.
I just try to give calls on the parametres I have written in past"How to find a multibager" and I always try to look at these parametres to find a multibagger.
The reason for recomending Kwality Dairy then, maybe a couple of yrs back, was the promoters stake which was very high at over 80%.Though the co was not doing any good in NP term but when promoters have confidence in the co as they were holding over 80% stake that was a trigger for me to give a call. Moreover we all eat Kwality Icecream , be it Winter or Summer!
Kwality is a brand product.
And that came out to be TRUE in every sense.I am happy that someone is earning from my call when people are losing in market.
Srei Infra at rs 37 is a buy.It may go down from here but a single order of Rs 6,000 cr is no less.Even L&T can envy for this type of orders.
The only thing is needed now here in this scenario is CONVICTION.......Have conviction....
I wish this type of bear market last longer for atleast Dec 2009 so that I can gather money and buy my favourite stocks at throw away price. So that I can gather money and buy them.Very few have the liberty like Mitzz who can buy stocks at their will.....I envy him......Lol.......just kidding.....I am the happiest person when someone earns in stock market,Though it seems easy to earn in stockmarket but it is not so...as almost all have gone through that....
The only thing I would like to write that keep a watch on all those stocks that I have listed, past and recent ones. They are all capable of giving phenominal returns.

Sharma indulged in fictitious trading, did not cooperate with Sebi, and indulged in concerted attempt to intefere with markets, it said.

Meanwhile, the market regulator has disposes off the show cause notice against Devina Mehra of First Global.

Commenting on the issue, Devina Mehra said they were only asking Sebi for the probe report which is not providing documents. She said they will appeal against Sebi order on Shankar Sharma.

Here is a verbatim transcript of the exclusive interview with Devina Mehra on CNBC-TV18. Also see the accompanying video.

Q: What do you make of this order from Sebi at this point in time?

A: It is patently illegal for one. It doesn’t keep to Sebi’s own laws. This is the same thing that has been going on since 2001. The whole thing started with the allegation that we had brought down the market in mid-February to mid-March in 2001. As we have’ve got the data out of the Sebi through RTI because they resisted it all along, we found that we were not among even the top 50 sellers during that period.
In fact, we were buyers and we could not have brought down the market. The thing was that at that point Sebi had show caused both the broking company that we own as well as Shankar Sharma and me individually. The whole process was gone through and both individuals were exonerated and orders were passed only against the companies. Thereafter even the order against the companies did not hold when we went and appealed in SAT. So, those were also struck down. By which they had again started this process of again showcausing us on the same material which is really absurd.

On top of that, when we went to court they actually filed an affidavit saying that if the order against the company does not stand, then obviously the show cause against the directors would fall. Even so, as all of you know, the orders against the companies did not stand. Yet the regulator has gone ahead and passed an order against an individual on the same material. In fact, they have tried to bring in another material, which is not allowed as per Sebi’s own regulations, because you need to have an investigation report showing that this material has been investigated before an order or a show cause can be released.

Q: There are two points in the Sebi order, one is that this pertains largely to 10 scrips in which transactions happened. Its allegation is that there was a circular trading, there were synchronised deals that happened. I would like your reaction on that? Point number two is that the regulator made several references to the fact that post the Bombay High Court order where they were supposed to serve a show cause notice, there was not much cooperation that came in through Shankar Sharma in terms of responding to those show causes and taking the opportunity of personal hearing. What is your reaction on both these points?

A: The whole point was that when a show cause notice or for that matter any legal proceeding is without basis or without jurisdiction, you have to first question the jurisdiction and the regulator or whatever the authority is supposed to first satisfy you on that point that they do have the jurisdiction because you cannot submit yourself to a process that is without jurisdiction or not within the law. So, we were only asking them for example for the investigation report on which this was based because that is a requirement as per Sebi’s own law.

However, the regulator does not want to go by its own law. So, they never satisfied us or gave us material on that and just went ahead with this.

As far as charges per se is concerned, this is a time when as a member of the Bombay Stock Exchange there were limits on your trading volume, which was a reason why all of us had multiple memberships. Our firm itself had three memberships with the BSE just because of that limit. But there were times when because of your clients’ trading volumes you could even be exceeding those limits on three cards, which is why at times you would need somebody else’s limit and Niraml Bang had eight memberships on the BSE. So that was a natural place to go to just shift some of your positions. There was nothing more to it than that.

Q: Are you going to go into appeal on this order?

A: Of course. You have to remember another thing that this order has been stayed in advance by the Bombay High Court. So, that was precisely to give us that window to go into appeal. So, obviously we are going to appeal this order.

My Commnets:

I was asked why am writing against Shankar Shrama?I don't remember who asked that....

My view is vindicated .He is charged for fictituous trading. What is that? That is what KP was barred for.KP did for bull market and SS did for bear market breaking the prices through fictitious trading and remember this is for the case in 2001.After 2-3 yrs there can be more cases for the debacle in 2008 as well.Mark my words.

No one has taken bath in milk all are same.

It is very obvious that SS wants to break the market and that is why he use to advocate bearish view and some of his arguements are real absurd.I have discuss one here about his arguement on Aban LLyod.

He also feels that Ril Ind,SBI ,Bharti and likes are still way above their 2003 low and unless they touches that mark , he says we cannot say we are in bear market.

Just a couple of days back I read in TOI that FII's holding has come down to the level of 2003.That is a great news.If the holding has come down at 2003 then it means the over ownership is over.DII's now owns more then FII's in A gr shares.

Read On:

FII holdings in Indian cos down to 2003 level
13 Feb 2009, 0111 hrs IST, TNN
MUMBAI: Foreign investors, the most influential investor group in the Indian market, have reduced their holdings in Indian companies drastically in
the last four quarters and are back to their December 2003 holding levels. However, domestic institutional institutions (DIIs), led by insurance companies, have cushioned part of the FII exodus. And now, for the first time ever, DIIs own more than what retail investors hold in Indian companies, an analysis by a Citigroup arm of the latest disclosed shareholding patterns showed. The report also pointed out that for the first time in four years, DIIs and retail investors, that excludes promoters, own more than FIIs. In BSE 500 stocks, which make up for 94% of the all BSE listed companies, DIIs now hold 8.86%, while retail investors hold 8.64%. Retail investors, who were holding 16.4% of the BSE 500 companies in March 2001, have mostly been shedding their positions since then. Sebi data also shows that in 2008, FIIs took $13 billion (Rs 54,500 crore) out of the Indian market, a trend reversal from a $17 billion (Rs 72,700 crore) net inflow in 2007. Compared to this, DIIs -- which include mutual funds, insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions -- pumped in nearly Rs 14,000 crore in 2008, more than double the Rs 6,400 crore they had invested in 2007. The Citi report titled Back to...2003' said the last quarter's sell-off, when about 1.4% of FIIs holdings were sold, brought it down to 15.5%, the same level where it was five years ago. This is the same level where it was during the early days of the last bull market. In value terms, foreign ownership is still higher at $94 billion than in December 2003, but the level is almost of an age gone by,'' the report said. The landmark shift in ownership data, showing DIIs holding more than the combined holding of retail investors, could also be a sign of a maturing market. Domestic investors (ex-promoters) now collectively own more than foreigners for the first time in four years. The big gainers continue to be the insurance companies who now own 5% of India Inc,'' the report said. Foreign funds are known to concentrate their holdings in blue chips and the latest data corroborates the same. As of last quarter, FIIs held 22.5% in the 30 sensex stocks, while retail investors held 8.6%, insurance companies 6.4% and mutual funds 4.1%.

Luck...........Lady Luck.........Is it there......?

Friends,
I have been dealt with lots of arguements whether there is something like LUCK or not....my previous post was on that.
I am believer of LUCK which I have written in this post as well......
I have brought two incidence here ...........which I have written here.....if anyone have any arguements , counter arguements please do write but please read each and every sentence properly and then answer.I don't wants arguements which are incomplete......
Read both the instances properly.......they are true.........

One of my relative were living at a place near to Pedder Rd for years in Mumbai.
There was some flats building taking place at Peddar Rd but his flat was so big with 4-5 bedrooms that in no way he needed a second one and hence he didn't book any nor he has money to pay thereafter.
But one Dalal use to come everyday to his house and stand in his living room daily around 9 am and after speaking "Saahab ,give Rs 5000/- and my Uncle use to say I am not going to give"......and after hearing that that man use to leave his house.
Then same thing use to happen dsaily and daily my uncle will say same thing and he goes back empty. One day my Aunty asked my Uncle why this man is coming to their house and why he is asking for money and why you are saying NO?
My uncle explained to my Aunty that he is a Dalal and he is here for money to book a flat at certain place and he wants me to have one. That Dalal says "I wants you(uncle) to have a flat where he is dealing."Means Dalal is keen to sell or book a flat for my uncle......Dalal was telling him "ek bar booking ka paisa dedo then rest of the money you pay as you get"
Well, the real thing to note is Dalal kept coming to his house untill he got the money.....what will you call it?
My uncle never intended to buy a flat anywhere then in Mumbai but Dalal kept on coming.Ultimately my Aunty said to my uncle "Give him Rs 5000 so that he atleast stops coming and sitting on our head daily"Usko panch hazar dedo aur chotkara karo us se...
And my uncle gave Rs 5000 and stopped him coming and ultimately that flat fetch him 2cr as the prices went skyhigh....after paying for the full amt when it was needed....
Now what can be said of this ?Luck or calculation or planning or what.....I call it a LUCK......paisa milne wala tha ....mila ....I believe in LUCK...
This is a true example and not a story.....You may believe it or not.......
I remember one more incidence.......
This is also true......

Ashokkumar was a very great and very famous actor. Those who are old as much as over 50 yrs should be knowing what populairty AshokKumar had .....if not then one can ask their father or grand father.........

Ashokkumar passed his B.Sc and came to Mumbai as he didn't get any job and his brother-in-law , Shashdhar Mukerjee called him to Mumbai as he told his Director and Producer , Himanshu Roy that he has a Sala(Bro-in-law) who is B.Sc and needs work and Himanshu Roy was fond of employing person who are graduates.A graduates in 1930's had great value then.......and that is how AshokKumar got a job through his Banevi(Bro-in-law)....
One day what happened , the Hero of the film didn't turn up and didn't come the next day as well.Dir Himanshu Roy went mad and he suddenly saw Ashokkumar and he said he will be my Hero of this film.....and he called Ashokkumar and told him that he will the Hero of his next film...........
If anyone would have heard this he would have gone mad that he is becoming Hero......but Ashokkumar never wanted to become a hero.......remember he never wanted to become a Hero of a film......he was not willing ........so what he did?He went to a Sallon and shaved off all his hair and become bald so that Himanshu Roy drops him as a hero and select someone else......and he went with a bald head to the studio...........Lol.........Any other director would have selected another person as a Hero but Himanshu Roy said........I will wait for his Hair to grow.......and ultimately Ashokkumar had to become a hero against his will.......AGAINST HIS WILL.......
and then Achut Kanya become a HIT ...his first release and then followed Kagan, Badhan, Jhula....and then FILM "Kismat".....which make a record which was broken only by Sholay after many decades.......running in theatre.....
Can anyone tell me what can be explained for this incidence ..........though Ashokkumar never intended to become a Film Hero he was taken in by force......no intention ever....and his popularity was far far bigger then Rajesh Khanna or recent Amitabh Bacchan.....now......
I am a great believer of LUCK.............

I can give numerous examples....like this ..........
Views invited.......Read each and every sentence properly and then give answers.......

Why some people have all the luck ...............

Friends,
I have been through this article from other site.I remember Haresh Soneji is a good writer and have read him in India. He writes something to think about.
I liked this article and analysis and hence I am pasting it here for all to read and also give views .......
Thanks,
Rajeev

Why some people have all the luck

I set out to examine luck, 10 years ago. Why are some people always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experience ill fortune? I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky to contact me.
Hundreds of extraordinary men and women volunteered for my research and over the years, have been interviewed by me. I have monitored their lives and had them take part in experiments. The results reveal that although these people have almost no insight into the causes of their luck, their thoughts and behaviour are responsible for much of their good and bad fortune. Take the case of seemingly chance opportunities. Lucky people consistently encounter such opportunities, whereas unlucky people do not.
I carried out a simple experiment to discover whether this was due to differences in their ability to spot such opportunities. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to look through it and
tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying: 'Tell the experimenter you have seen this and win $50'.
This message took up half of the page and was written in type that was more than two inches high. It was staring everyone straight in the face, but the unlucky people tended to miss it and the lucky people tended to spot it.
Unlucky people are generally more tense than lucky people, and this anxiety disrupts their ability to notice the unexpected.
As a result, they miss opportunities because they are too focused on looking for something else. They go to parties intent on finding their perfect partner and so miss opportunities to make good friends. They look through newspapers determined to find certain types of job advertisements and miss other types of jobs.
Lucky people are more relaxed and open, and therefore see what is there rather than just what they are looking for. My research eventually revealed that lucky people generate good fortune via four principles.

1)They are skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities,
2)make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition,
3)create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations, and
4)adopt a resilient attitude that transforms bad luck into good.
I wondered towards the end of the work, whether these principles could be used to create good luck. I asked a group of volunteers to spend a month carrying out exercises designed to help them think and behave like a lucky person. Dramatic results! These exercises helped them spot chance opportunities, listen to their intuition, expect to be lucky, and be more resilient to bad luck. One month later, the volunteers returned and described what had happened. The results were dramatic: 80 per cent of people were now happier, more satisfied with their lives and, perhaps most important of all, luckier.
The lucky people had become even luckier and the unlucky had become lucky. Finally, i had found the elusive 'luck factor'. Here are four top tips for becoming lucky:
1) Listen to your gut instincts ^ they are normally right.
2) Be open to new experiences and breaking your normal routine.
3) Spend a few moments each day remembering things that went well.
4) Visualise yourself being lucky before an important meeting or telephone call.
Have a Lucky day and work for it.
The happiest people in the world are not those who have no problems, but those who learn to live with things that are less than perfect.
The author of `The Luck Factor' teaches at the University of Hertfordshire.

END PIECE - CRY PLEDGE "Before anything else, I'm an Indian. And so is this little child. The rights I enjoy as a citizen of this free country are hers too. She has a right to be free. She has a right to be happy. But I'm going to fight for her because she has the right to be a child. I'm going to fight for her every single day, every single moment. With my skills. With my resources. With my heart. I'm going to fight for her because I can. And she can't."

My Comments:
I would only add here that "Anger takes away the clarity of thought.Never anger let take charge of you."
Clarity of thoughts is very very important for being successful......Try to think when you are angry.....

An Islam columnist on Jews - By: Dr Farrukh Saleem.............

There are only 14 million Jews in the world; seven million in the Americas, five million in Asia, two million in Europe and 100,000 in Africa.. For every single Jew in the world there are 100 Muslims. Yet, Jews are more than a hundred times more powerful than all the Muslims put together. Ever wondered why?
Jesus of Nazareth was Jewish. Albert Einstein, the most influential scientist of all time and TIME magazine's 'Person of the Century', was a Jew. Sigmund Freud -- id, ego, superego -- the father of psychoanalysis was a Jew. So were Karl Marx, Paul Samuelson and Milton Friedman.

Here are a few other Jews whose intellectual output has enriched the whole humanity:

Benjamin Rubin gave humanity the vaccinating needle.

Jonas Salk developed the first polio vaccine.

AlBert Sabin developed the improved live polio vaccine.

Gertrude Elion gave us a leukemia fighting drug.

Baruch Blumberg developed the vaccination for Hepatitis B.

Paul Ehrlich discovered a treatment for syphilis (a sexually transmitted disease).

Elie Metchnikoff won a Nobel Prize in infectious diseases.

Bernard Katz won a Nobel Prize in neuromuscular transmission.

Andrew Schally won a Nobel in endocrinology (disorders of the endocrine system; diabetes, hyperthyroidism).

Aaron Beck founded Cognitive Therapy (psychotherapy to treat mental disorders, depression and phobias).

Gregory Pincus developed the first oral contraceptive pill..

George Wald won a Nobel for furthering our understanding of the human eye.

Stanley Cohen won a Nobel in embryology (study of embryos and their development).

Willem Kolff came up with the kidney dialysis machine.. Over the past 105 years, 14 million Jews have won 15-dozen Nobel. Prizes while only three Nobel Prizes have been won by 1.4 billion Muslims (other than Peace Prizes).

Why are Jews so powerful?

Stanley Mezor invented the first micro-processing chip.

Leo Szilard developed the first nuclear chain reactor;

Peter Schultz, optical fibre cable;

Charles Adler, traffic lights;

Benno Strauss, Stainless steel;

Isador Kisee, sound movies;

Emile Berliner, telephone microphone;

Charles Ginsburg, videotape recorder.

Famous financiers in the business world who belong to Jewish faith include Ralph Lauren (Polo), Levis Strauss (Levi's Jeans), Howard Schultz (Starbuck's), Sergey Brin (Google), Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Larry Ellison (Oracle), Donna Karan (DKNY), Irv Robbins (Baskins & Robbins) and Bill Rosenberg (Dunkin Donuts).

Richard Levin, President of Yale University, is a Jew. So are Henry Kissinger (American secretary of state), Alan Greenspan (Fed chairman under Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush), Joseph Lieberman, Madeleine Albright (American secretary of state), Casper Weinberger (American secretary of defense), Maxim Litvinov ( USSR foreign Minister), David Marshal ( Singapore 's first chief minister), Issac Isaacs (governor-general of Australia ), Benjamin Disraeli (British statesman and author), Yevgeny Primakov (Russian PM), Barry Goldwater, Jorge Sampaio (president of Portugal ), John Deutsch (CIA director), Herb Gray (Canadian deputy PM), Pierre Mendes (French PM), Michael Howard (British home secretary), Bruno Kreisky (chancellor of Austria) and Robert Rubin (American secretary of treasury).

In the media, famous Jews include Wolf Blitzer (CNN), Barbara Walters (ABC News), Eugene Meyer (Washington Post), Henry Grunwald (editor-in-chief Time), Katherine Graham (publisher of The Washington Post), Joseph Lelyyeld (Executive editor, The New York Times), and Max Frankel (New York Times).

Can you name the most beneficent philanthropist in the history of the world? The name is George Soros, a Jew, who has so far donated a colossal $4 billion most of which has gone as aid to scientists and universities around the world. Second to George Soros is Walter Annenberg, another Jew, who has built a hundred libraries by donating an estimated $2 billion.

At the Olympics, Mark Spitz set a record of sorts by wining seven gold medals. Lenny Krayzelburg is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Spitz, Krayzelburg and Boris Becker are all Jewish.

Did you know that Harrison Ford, George Burns, Tony Curtis, Charles Bronson, Sandra Bullock, Billy Crystal, Woody Allen, Paul Newman, Peter Sellers, Dustin Hoffman, Michael Douglas, Ben Kingsley, Kirk Douglas, Goldie Hawn, Cary Grant, William Shatner, Jerry Lewis and Peter Falk are all Jewish?

As a matter of fact, Hollywood itself was founded by a Jew. Among directors and producers, Steven Spielberg, Mel Brooks, Oliver Stone, Aaron Spelling (Beverly Hills 90210), Neil Simon (The Odd Couple), Andrew Vaina (Rambo 1/2/3), Michael Man (Starsky and Hutch), Milos Forman (One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest), Douglas Fairbanks (The thief of Baghdad ) and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) are all Jewish..

To be certain, Washington is the capital that matters and in Washington the lobby that matters is The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.

Washington knows that if PM Ehud Olmert were to discover that the earth is flat, AIPAC will make the 109th Congress pass a resolution congratulating Olmert on his discovery.

William James Sidis, with an IQ of 250-300, is the brightest human who ever existed. Guess what faith did he belong to?

So, why are Jews so powerful? Answer: Education.

Why are Muslims so powerless? There are an estimated 1,476,233,470 Muslims on the face of the planet: one billion in Asia, 400 million in Africa, 44 million in Europe and six million in the Americas .. Every fifth human being is a Muslim; for every single Hindu there are two Muslims, for every Buddhist there are two Muslims and for every Jew there are one hundred Muslims.

Ever wondered why Muslims are so powerless?

Here is why: There are 57 member-countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), and all of them put together have around 500 universities; one university for every three million Muslims. The United States has 5,758 universities and India has 8,407. In 2004, Shanghai Jiao Tong University compiled an 'Academic Ranking of World Universities' , and intriguingly, not one university from Muslim-majority states was in the top-500.

As per data collected by the UNDP, literacy in the Christian world stands at nearly 90 per cent and 15 Christian-majority states have a literacy rate of 100 per cent. A Muslim-majority state, as a sharp contrast, has an average literacy rate of around 40 per cent and there is no Muslim-majority state with a literacy rate of 100 percent. Some 98 per cent of the 'literates' in the Christian world had completed primary school, while less than 50 per cent of the 'literates' in the Muslim world did the same.

Around 40 per cent of the 'literates' in the Christian world attended university while no more than two per cent of the 'literates' in the Muslim world did the same.

Muslim-majority countries have 230 scientists per one million Muslims. The US has 4,000 scientists per million and Japan has 5,000 per million. In the entire Arab world, the total number of full-time researchers is 35,000 and there are only 50 technicians per one million Arabs (in the Christian world there are up to 1,000 technicians per one million). Furthermore, the Muslim world spends 0.2 per cent of its GDP on research and development, while the Christian world spends around five per cent of its GDP.

Conclusion:The Muslim world lacks the capacity to produce knowledge.

Daily newspapers per 1,000 people and number of book titles per million are two indicators of whether knowledge is being diffused in a society. In Pakistan , there are 23 daily newspapers per 1,000 Pakistanis while the same ratio in Singapore is 360. In the UK , the number of book titles per million stands at 2,000 while the same in Egypt is 20.

Conclusion: The Muslim world is failing to diffuse knowledge.

Exports of high technology products as a percentage of total exports are an important indicator of knowledge application. Pakistan 's export of high technology products as a percentage of total exports stands at one per cent. The same for Saudi Arabia is 0.3 per cent; Kuwait , Morocco , and Algeria are all at 0.3 per cent while Singapore is at 58 per cent.

Conclusion: The Muslim world is failing to apply knowledge.

Why are Muslims powerless? Because we aren't producing knowledge.

Why are Muslims powerless? Because we aren't diffusing knowledge.

Why are Muslims powerless? Because we aren't applying knowledge.

And, the future belongs to knowledge-based societies. Interestingly, the combined annual GDP of 57 OIC-countries is under $2 trillion. America, just by herself, produces goods and services worth $12 trillion; China $8 trillion, Japan $3.8 trillion and Germany $2.4 trillion (purchasing power parity basis).

Oil rich Saudi Arabia , UAE, Kuwait and Qatar collectively produce goods and services (mostly oil) worth $500 billion; Spain alone produces goods and services worth over $1 trillion, Catholic Poland $489 billion and Buddhist Thailand $545 billion. (Muslim GDP as a percentage of world GDP is fast declining).

So, why are Muslims so powerless? Answer: Lack of education.

All we do is shout to Allah the whole day and blame everyone else for our multiple failures .

L&T increase stake from 4% to 12%...in Satyam

Friends,
I wrote about Satyam and that it is a great buy.
One of the reader name Vasanthy asked about what price it should be bought.
I gave her a detail answer and how I am coming to the conlcusion, why it is a great buy.But I am not seeing any feedback from her whether she read my comments or whether she bought or she just lost the chance.
My blog is like a friendly platform. One can write me and ask me if I do not reply and readers use to write me if they use to differ.Sometimes I do not use to get time and hence may not reply hence I request you all that do repeat your query and I will definately try to reply it.
But readers feedback is very important. If someone ask something and I reply to them and they don't revert back then I feel that the query was just a casual query and not a serious one.Someone just asked for the sake of asking.......
I wrote in that reply to Vasanthy that Mcap is so less that when we compare it with Infy, Wipro and TCS that Satyam makes a good buy.
I have also written many times that everyone should read my replies to anyone. One will always find something to read.....I hope everyone visiting my blog must be doing that.
Now that L&T has increased the stake from 4% to 12% and they bought arond 1.18 cr share at one go on 23 rd while averaging it at rs 35 but seems that they wants to come on to have a sit in the Satyam Board and what a chance God has given to Mr.Anilbhai Naik! and he seems to be the right guy to have Satyam.
When I wrote in comments it was 20 and now it is 38!Wow great run.
I categorically wrote here that Satyam can't be Zero as Mr.Shankar Sharma of First Global has predicted.Market never act on anyone whims. The day Bulls started dreaming that market is behaving as per we say ,we saw the Crash and now Bears are also thinking in same way. They feels that market is and now should react as we think and that means the end of Bear market.
I don't say that the bear market has ended and bull market has started as there will be consilidation inbetween that will take place. We can see some downside but seems that 7600 is the bottom and under no circumstances it should be broken. This may happen and may not happen. This is all my assumptions.
But as I have written here in past, I am still seeing a turnaround by the end of June qr .
I would like everyone to keep a tab on Crude prices. The day it goes over $60 then I think we should think that the demand has increased and that world economy is coming back to normal.
And hence this is also the best time to buy stocks like Selan Exploration, Alpha Geo, Aban LLyod,ShivVani Uni,Jindal Drilling , Dolphin Offshore,HOEC,etc.........
Oil is going to be the main wealth creator in future as the Oil wells are getting empty and world needs to find newer places where Oil can be obtained and hence the Seismic data co,Drilling co,Exploration co are bound to make good business and bound to earn great returns.....

Satyam Saga.....there was no less margin...Raju diverted funds to Maytas and others cos.....

Ramalinga Raju admits to diverting Satyam money
21 Jan 2009, 1724 hrs IST, IANS

Text:
HYDERABAD: Disgraced founder and former chairman of Satyam Computer Services B. Ramalinga Raju has confessed that he diverted funds of the IT
company to the two real estate firms promoted by his family, state police sources said here on Wednesday. Raju, who was grilled Wednesday for the fourth day by officials of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh police, also reportedly admitted using the Satyam money to buy prime land in and around Hyderabad.
CID sources said Raju told interrogators funds were diverted during the past four to five years. This means Raju's Jan 7 statement that he inflated company accounts was a red herring. While resigning as company chairman, Raju had admitted to a Rs.70 billion (Rs.7,000 crore/$1.43 billion) accounting fraud, saying the company had cooked its books over several years resulting in inflated (non-existent) cash and bank balances. He reiterated this during CID interrogation soon after his arrest January 9.
But investigations have now revealed that a big chunk of this money existed but was diverted to other firms. CID, which took Raju, his brother and former managing director B. Rama Raju and former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas in custody for four days following a court order, grilled the former Satyam boss on the basis of his confession. After prolonged interrogation, Raju finally admitted to diverting Satyam funds to his family firms — Maytas Properties and Maytas Infra. He told CID sleuths that this was going on since 2004. Raju not only diverted funds out of Satyam but is also believed to have misled company auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) by submitting fake bank documents. CID and some regulatory agencies have already seized some documents from PwC. Raju also reportedly swindled money through 6,000 fake salary accounts for last few years. Sources said he had created these accounts in four banks to divert the funds from fixed deposits. Some of these funds were flowed through his accounts in foreign banks. The company's claims that it had 53,000 employees came under scrutiny after Raju's January 7 confession. The government-appointed board is also trying to ascertain these figures. With Raju confessing to diversion of funds, the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and Registrar of Companies (RoC) are now trying to trace a Mauritius-based company used for channelising the money to Maytas. The central government has already asked SFIO to extend the ambit of investigations of Satyam fraud to cover both Maytas Properties and Maytas Infra. A team of SFIO is checking the accounts and records of the two firms. However, both the firms have denied that they received any funds from Satyam.

Morgan Stanley to store crude at sea ....hinting of things to come...?

Morgan Stanley to store crude at sea
Alaric Nightingale LONDON

MORGAN Stanley hired a supertanker to store crude oil in the Gulf of Mexico, joining Citigroup Inc and Royal Dutch Shell Plc in trying to profit from higher prices later in the year, two shipbrokers said. The ship is the Argenta, capable of carrying more than 2 million barrels, Paris-based Barry Rogliano Salles and Athens-based Optima Shipbrokers said in reports. Morgan Stanley officials in London didn’t immediately reply to three phone messages seeking comment. Banks and c o m m o d i t y traders are seeking new ways to make money after the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell by the most since 1937 last year and crude oil prices dropped more than $100 a barrel from their peak. Companies including Koch Industries Inc and BP Plc are hoarding enough crude at sea to supply the world for almost a day. “It’s a window of opportunity that won’t last long,” Gareth Lewis-Davies, a London-based energy analyst at Dresdner Kleinwort Group, said by phone. There may only be four or five banks with the expertise to make the trade, he said. Frontline Ltd, the world’s biggest owner of supertankers, said January 14 about 80 million barrels of crude oil are being stored in tankers, the most in 20 years. A purchaser could buy oil now, keep it for months at sea and fetch better prices by selling futures that are higher than the spot price. The so-called contango pricing structure in oil has been caused by excess supply as demand slows and speculation that output cuts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will reduce the glut later this year. The easiest types of oil to buy for the trade are likely to be either West Texas Intermediate or the North Sea grades Brent, Forties, Oseberg or Ekofisk. That’s because they are the ones used to settle the mosttraded futures contracts. Other oils, such as those from the Middle East and Africa, are usually bought and sold at prices related to the main European and U.S. grades. Because those prices fluctuate, it means traders assume an extra risk by hoarding them. Phibro LLC, Citigroup’s commodities trading unit, has the 1 million-barrel carrier Ice Transporter stationed off north Scotland and also hired the supertanker Ashna to store. Shell, Europe’s largest oil company, booked two supertankers. — Bloomberg

Comments:
Well, While going through the ET today I read this news and was thinking what is written is true then it is obvious that the demand in Oil is going to get increased in later part of the year and that means USA economy should be showing some good nos in second half of this year .
Now if the Oil demand increases once again it also says that the comsumption has increased and that means world economy is coming back to normal.
Crude prices are at where they were in 2003 and so is inflation. While thinking what has happened in 6 months that crude has gone down from a high of $147 to $33 and what happened suddenly to the financial sector that all banks and financial insti like CITI, Lehman, Bear Stern,Merill Lynch ,BOA,Freedie Mae and Freedie Mac the most two trusted mortagage entity of US government went down.
How can such things happens? Is it a ploy to swallow money of overseas countries invested in big financial US co written above?
How come the Oil demand come so less that the prices fall to $33?Is that possible?
Well, I am in USA since last Feb and have started seeing the first debacle that happened of Bear Stern...and then it is a history.....as each and every big financial house got broked.
I am seeing no problem whatsoever with people here. They are just fine and there is no panic.Cars are running on the road as usual .They are just seen when I landed here. And that is the trick .The Gas prices has come down so much as low as $1.47 /gl which was $4.69/gl just 4-5 months back that people do not feel the pinch for driving a car for whatever reason they need to drive.I don't think any country hass decreased the prices of Gas/petrol prices as much as USA can/has done and that is where the trick is.The prices get decreased with the crude prices going down which do not happen with rest of the world.
I would like to know from my blog readers if any country use to decrease the Petrol/gas prices as much as USA do....
But looking at the above news it seems that second half we are going to see a turnaround in US ecocnomy.US economy is worth 25% of world GDP and if US economy makes a good turn around then we can see crude coming back to $60-70 by end of the year or early next year.
I again rewrite that I may prove wrong in all my assumptions as they are after all guessings and one can go totally wrong
.

One Offtopic talk:
Regarding Kashmir, when Kashmir is an integral part of India and while our army is there at the border then why the hell we need to talk with Pakistan for Kashmir. There is no issue for Kashmir if only there can be talk on Kashmir then it should be only of Pakistan occupied Kashmir(POK) which was taken away by Pakistan in 1965.I do not know how that happened and how that much part is with Pakistan but that is rediculous that some part of Kashmir is with pakistan and we called as POK as they are supposed to be not the owner. The Kashmir that is under Indiasovernity why we need to talk about that with Pakistan?I don't understand the whole issue? If Kashmir is with Pakistan then why the hell Indian army is there? And if Kashmir is with India then why the hell we need to talk with Pakistan?
Can any politician answer me this question?

Full text of Raju's letter to the Satyam Board................

I have read somewhere this Letter but forget the site name.Authencity is unknown but reading it seems good and hence I am pasting it here.

From B. Ramalinga RajuChairman,

Satyam Computer Servcies Ltd

Dear Board Members,
It is with deep regret, and tremendous burden that I am carrying on my conscience, that I would like to bring the following facts to your notice:

1. The balance sheet carries as of September 30, 2008.

a) Inflated (non-existent) cash and bank balance of Rs 5,040 crore (as against Rs 5361 crore reflected in the books).

b) An accrued interest of Rs 376 crore which is non-existent.

c) An understated liability of Rs 1,230 crore on account of funds arranged by me.

d) An over stated debtor position of Rs 490 crore (as against Rs 2651 reflected in the books)

2. For the September quarter (Q2) we reported a revenue of Rs 2,700 crore and an operating margin of Rs 649 crore (24 per cent of revenues) as against the actual revenues of Rs 2,112 crore and an actual operating margin of Rs 61 crore (3 per cent of revenue). This has resulted in artificial cash and bank balances going up by Rs 588 crore in Q2 alone.

The gap in the balance sheet has arisen purely on account of inflated profits over a period of last several years (limited only to Satyam standalone, books of subsidiaries reflecting true performance). What started as a marginal gap between actual operating profit and the one reflected in the books of accounts continued to grow over the years. It has attained unmanageable proportions as the size of the company operations grew significantly (annualized revenue run rate of Rs 11,276 crore in the September quarter, 2008 and official reserves of Rs 8.392 crore). The differential in the real profits and the one reflected in the books was further accentuated by the fact that the company had to carry additional resources and assets to justify higher level of operations thereby significantly increasing the costs.

Every attempt made to eliminate the gap failed. As the promoters held a small percentage of equity, the concern was the poor performance would result in a takeover, thereby exposing the gap. It was like riding a tiger, not knowing how to get off without being eaten.

The aborted Maytas acquisition deal was the last attempt to fill the fictitious assets with real ones. Maytas investors were convinced that this is a good divestment opportunity and a strategic fit. Once Satyams problem was solved, it was hoped that Maytas payments can be delayed. But that was not to be. What followed in the last several days is common knowledge.

I would like the board to know:

1. That neither myself, not the Managing Director(including our spouses) sold any shares in the last eight years-excepting for a small proportion declared and sold for philanthropic purposes.

2. That in the last two years a net amount of Rs 1,230 crore was arranged to Satyam (not reflected in the books of Satyam) to keep the operations going by resorting to pledging all the promoter shares and raising funds from know sources by giving all kinds of assurances (Statement enclosed, only to the members of the board). Significant dividend payments, acquisitions, capital expenditure to provide for growth did not help matters. Every attempt was made to keep the wheel moving and to ensure prompt payment of salaries to the associates. The last straw was the selling of most of the pledged share by the lenders on account of margin triggers.

3. That neither me, nor the Managing Director took even one rupee/dollar from the company and have not benefited in financial terms on account of the inflated results.

4. None of the board members, past or present, had any knowledge of the situation in which the company is placed. Even business leaders and senior executives in the company, such as Ram Mynampati, Subu D T R Anand, Kesab Panda, Virender Agarwal, A S Murthy, Hari T, S V Krishnan, Vijay Prasad, Manish Mehta, Murali V, Sriram Papani, Kiran Kavale, Joe Lagioia. Ravindra Penu Metsa, Jayaraman and Prabhakar Gupta are unaware of the real situation as against the books of accounts. None of my or managing directors immediate or extended family members has any ideas about these issues.

Having put the facts before you, I leave it to the wisdom of the board to take the matters forward. However, I am also taking the liberty to recommend the following steps:

1) A task force has been formed in the last few days to address the situation arising out of the failed Maytas acquisition attempt. This consists of some of the most accomplished leaders of Satyam: Subu D, T R Anand, Keshab Panda and Virender Aggarwal, representing business functions, and A.S.Murthy, Hari T and Murali V representing support functions. I suggest that Ram Mynampati be made the Chairman of this task force to immediately address some of the operational matters on hand. Ram can also act as an interim CEO reporting to the board.

2) Merrill Lynch can be entrusted with the task of quickly exploring some merger opportunities.

3) You may have a restatement of accounts prepared by auditors in light of the facts that I have placed before you.

I have promoted and have been associated with Satyam for well over twenty years now. I have seen it grow from few people to 53,000 people, with 185 Fortune 500 companies as customers and operations in 66 countries. Satyam has an excellent leadership and competency base at all levels. I sincerely apologize to all Satyamites and stakeholders who have made Satyam a special organization, for the current situation. I am confident they will stand by the company in this hour of crisis.

In light of the above, I fervently appeal to the board to hold together to take some important steps. Mt T R Prasad is well placed to mobalize support from the government at this crucial time. With the hope that members of the Task Force and the financila advisor, Merrill Lynch (now Bank of America) will stand by the company at this crucial hour, I am marking copies of this statement to them as well.

Under the circumustances, I am tendering my resignation as the chairman of Satyam and shall continue in this position only till such time the current board is expanded. My contribution is just to ensure enhancement of the board over the next several days or as early as possible.

I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of the land and fact the consequences thereof.(B. Ramalinga Raju)Copied marked to:1) SEBI Chairman2) Stock Exchanges

My Comments:
Reading the text what I findout is ,seems that ,maybe there can be inflated cash shown and other credits in BS .Maybe the Revenue is inflated but reading it seems like that it is inflated by just around 10% and with 185 ,Fortune 500 ,clients then we can't doubt about the work Satyam was giving. That was going for past decade and none of the clients ever cancelled the orders or terminated them abruptly. That speaks for Satyam work and service.....There should be some Value for the goodwill they have created while completing the job.
Maybe the margin was very less just at 3% and hence not enough for 53000 employees to get paid.Raju pledge his shares to pay for the employees. But the orders and clients were not fake and hence I feel that Satyam can be a very very good takeover by L&T or by Government.Deepak Parekh given the leadership is hinting what I was writing.Government may takeover this no 4 Software export co.........
But I think not all is lost for Satyam as our beloved Bear Mr Shankar Sharma spoke out that Satyam can be Zero.I feel that with good corporate governance Satyam can be brought back ontrack........and that too quicker then anyone can imagine.

Satyam case is not like Lehman br or Bear Stern or Citi or Merill Lych.It has clients and they have not lost money. The margins were poor. Why they were poor needs to be analysed.Either they erred in recruiting more employees then wanted as written by Bhargav and they needs to be trimed down so Satyam can come back to normal and try to increase the margins and do whatever is needed....But am sure this is not a scandal.Something was going wrong somewhere which Raju was not also able to understand.

Sataym Saga............

Friends,
I have written very small post on Satyam when asked for my comments and many must have frustrated while reading it that it was too small .But let me tell you that I didn't go full flow about how market will react.
But when I am seeing that market has not showed a great concern on next day and still remained above 9k it shows that market has discounted this bad news and now we need to see how market reacts next week. But when there is no big reaction the very next day it means that we should do well next week as well.
Ofcourse , the results of Dec qr which are due can take toll but Infy moving up shows that market has taken satyam news as an isolated misgovernance and has not taken it in totality for the whole sector.
I hope that that should be the case and we see a stabilization after Satyam issue comes to the fore.

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Friends,
I have been asked to comment on Satyam Issue.
Well here is what I think.
The debacle has done more bad to Satyam itself. The stocks may still fall.I am also learning that L&T subsidiary has invested in Satyam and hence L&T also may get battered today or next week as news gets out.
I donno know but how FII's shows the courage to critisize Indian Cos when they have messed up the whole American system.
I just got a mail showing CLSA that how much Indian cos will get affected due to the Auditers who are also auditing other cos.Instead of looking at their house which is burning terribly they comes here to give expert view.
The Auditers is none other then a foriegn co named Pricewater Cooper!
They have given some 15 stocks list which are said to be Audited by Pricewater Cooper house! Is this standard of USA co.This is how they audited?
I donno but CLSA itself must be headdrown in this mess or in USA.No one is knowing what is with CLSA.Hence howmuch to rely on CLSA report or any forieng Insti is a question.
But one thing is clear and that is, even A gr cos are no good when we use to questions the management of Cash gr cos. This vindicates my view that there is nothing like good or bad management. It all depends on how cos pans out.
Well, reagarding market I think there can be some more down side but by next week we should be back to normal. This is my thinking and I may prove wrong.......

Friends,
I wrote last time that I would be giving a list which can fetch great returns in couple of years.
I am writing it now because I feel if I willbe late in writing then it can be late.
Here is the list which almost includes stocks which I have discussed earlier. Some stocks may not be included but then I may not remember all and it may be like it becomes so long.....I am trying to make as much exhaustive as possible....
Name CMP
1)XL Tele - 58

30)Dolphin Offshore-176

The list is long I told you and still go longer as the valuations have come down so much that everything seems to be a value buy.
I may prove wrong in my view and stocks selections and hence I urge all readers to do due diligence and then invest. But remember what I wrote last time.Have a Capital Market magazine with you and try to see these stocks in Score board....it's BV,EPS,Sales,Promoters stake etc etc...this will give you confidence....
Our market ended 300 points up and closed above 10k.The earning seasons starts now and need to see how it pans out. Most probably the results are going to be disappointment and that is the general market consesus and just a better then expected result in any individual stocks, can act as a catalyst to that perticular stock.Hence be on alert.Keep opening the bse site everyday and keep seeing the results.Read ET and BS and see how the results are coming.
As I have written most probably after June qr the results will start showing good signs and hence this maybe the last quater that we may see valuation so down.

Good Sign?

Steel offtake rises 30-40% on higher demand

Ambarish Mukherjee

New Delhi, Jan. 3 Through the grey of Delhis foggy skies a little ray of hope appears to be shining on one of Asias largest steel markets the Loha Mandi in Naraina. Traders are looking much happier now than they were during Diwali because offtake has increased by 30-40 per cent since mid-November.
They attribute it to a significant and sudden rise in demand for long structural products, which has gone up by around 30-40 per cent. But prices have come down from an average of Rs 48,000-49,000 a tonne in August to around Rs 32,000-33,000 a tonne now.
Demand for flat steel, too, is growing but at a lower pace of 5-10 per cent, traders said.
The Naraina Loha Mandi houses around 1,000 shops that sell every possible steel product, from heavy plates to the thinnest wires.
According to the traders, the pattern of growth is different for the long and flat products. For long products the growth is from new demand, while for flat items it is a combination of new demand and import replacement after the Government put HR steel on the restricted list of items for import on November 21 last year.
A trader in long products, Mr Gurucharan Arora, said, Sales have picked up in the past two months and now reaching normal levels. Explaining the reason, he said, The builders who had put their projects on hold have started buying.
Officials in the countrys largest steel manufacturing company Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) also agree. Demand for long products has increased by around 15 per cent in the last few weeks, mainly on Government buying. If things continue the same way, the market may stabilise by January end or February, SAIL sources said.
There are still many uncertainties which is holding back latent demand, but the import duty on construction steel imposed on January 2 will increase demand further, he said.

READY STOCKS

However, despite sales picking up traders are cautious. The President, Naraina Iron & Steel Merchants Welfare Association, Mr Raj Kumar Jain, said, Traders are avoiding holding ready stocks and are mostly lifting on transaction basis. Though demand is picking up, many traders have strong liquidity problems. Stocks are down by 50-60 per cent compared to the peak levels in July/August 2008.

REAL VOLUMES

Interestingly, however, though the actual physical amount of steel sold is increasing, it is not reflected in the official volume figures because the steel market is down.
According to Mr Jain, this is because when the market is up, the same stock changes hand several times before reaching the consumer with three to four people making money out of the entire chain of transactions. At each stage it gets recorded as sales and the sum goes up, he explained. But in the present scenario, middlemen have fled the market and only the actual users are buying. These are real volumes, he said.

The likely beneficiaries of the second stimulus package .......

The likely beneficiaries of the second stimulus package

Chennai, Jan. 3 If the Cenvat concession and interest rate cuts of the first stimulus aimed at trimming costs for India Inc as a whole, the second one singles out select sectors for its munificence.
It promises lower borrowing costs for large infrastructure companies through the ECB route and paves the way for financial closure of stalled projects. It also offers incentives for commercial vehicle makers and the logistics sector, while raising the barriers of protection for cement makers. Here is a listing of possible beneficiaries.

Freeing up funds

For the infrastructure sector, moves such as the removal of the ECB ceiling, aggressive rate cuts and greater borrowing powers to IIFCL may infuse liquidity and temper the cost to borrowing. It may also speed up financial closure for infrastructure projects that are struggling to achieve financial closure. Players such as Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Construction and Maytas Infrastructures, key bidders in road projects, may be the possible beneficiaries.

While the CRR cut will lower the cost of funds for banks, the package also takes care to open up additional avenues for fund-raising by NBFCs. NBFCs engaged in infrastructure funding such as IDFC, REC and Power Finance Corporation, as also those that lend to the transport sector, may be able to obtain easier access to funds.

On the real estate front, the most significant incentive is the green signal given to realty developers to raise ECBs for developing integrated townships; a ban on raising funds for such townships was imposed in May 2007. DLF, Ansal Properties & Infrastructure and Parsvnath Developers that have plans in this direction may reap the benefits of this move.

Spillover for logistics

The focus on funding for road and port projects may also have spillover gains for the logistics sector, which has been grappling with dwindling volumes at the ports. Potential beneficiaries would be companies in the container rail space such as Container Corporation of India and Gateway Distriparks, besides players such as Allcargo Global, Sical Logistics and Mundra Port and SEZ. The sector may benefit from the easing of pre-shipment and post-shipment credit norms. The EXIM Bank has obtained a Rs 5000-crore line of credit from the RBI to provide credit to domestic exporters at competitive rates.

Inventory relief for CVs

Commercial vehicle makers have been dogged by steadily sliding sales and an inventory pile-up in recent months. The latest stimulus package tries to address this by offering an accelerated depreciation of 50 per cent for commercial vehicles purchased up to March 31, 2009. While availability of financing for purchases will hold the key to actually reviving vehicle demand, the accelerated depreciation benefits may push buyers to expedite purchase decisions.

This could help clear inventories for CV makers such as Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors and Escorts. The financing problem has been addressed by asking PSU banks to provide a line of credit to NBFCs (such as Sundaram Finance and Shriram Finance) for the purchase of commercial vehicles.
The Government has raised the barriers of protection for the domestic cement industry and allowed greater pricing power, by re-imposing countervailing duty (CVD) and Special CVD on cement imports.
Though the volume of imports has not been very large after the scrapping of import duty last year, cement players in the surplus northern region have been threatened by the shipments from Pakistan. Ambuja Cements, ACC, Shree Cement and JK Lakshmi Cement may be possible beneficiaries from this move.

Friends,
I think the time has come to buy stocks in staggered manner.I am seeing almost all the stock prices in Cash gr has come to almost 90% and hence chances of going down from there is maybe 10-15%.
Well, I am seeing the market breadth is becoming positive and that shows that some buying is coming from HNI's etc.Market breadth positive means stocks moving up are more then going down and I am marking since many days that this is happening. That is a sign of market bottoming out.Though it is early to say whether we will see the bottom of 7500 again or not because USA economy is still bleeding and what comes out there no one can say.
But I thought it is time for bargain hunting and one should buy whatever one thinks like buying. There an ocean of stocks with great fundamentals and available at throw away price and many we have discussed here. They are just available at 1/10 of high...what else one want....!
I am sure in next 2-4 months people will say that this share was available at 20 and I didn't buy and I lost the chance or this was a great co and I was knowing that this is going to run and was available at 50 and I missed it.
Friends,I have written many times here that buy even 100 shares of anystock. No one knows which one is going to give multibagger returns. So if a multibagger return is going to come then even 100 shares will do wonders.
I have often said that keep Capital Market Magazine handy.Look at the BV,EPS,sales, Macp and buy.
These are golden chances that comes in a life time.Stocks like Sujana Towers has come down from 200 to 20 with co still making an eps of over 20,Gremach Infra down from 550 to 28 which is 5% of the high and earning etc etc.....
The list is long. will write it next time but I think this is time to buy.
Try to look at stocks refering Capital Market Magazine.I have been able to find multibagger stocks from reading the scoreboard of CM and hence suggest all of you to do the same.
I may be wrong in my analysis once again and hence due prudence is neccessary to buy anything....
